Southend Hospital Radio is run totally by volunteers. The committee is elected at each year’s AGM and meets once a month to discuss station business

Chairman & Communications Manager Pete Sipple
Pete Sipple
Pete started with the station at the age of 16, kick-starting a 30-year career in radio. Pete is involved with a number of Internet radio projects, teaches broadcasting at a local college, and is a ‘radio ham’.
Programme Controller & Vice Chairman Joe Smith Joe Smith Joe has been a part of the radio station since 1997, and is responsible for the on-air sound of the radio station. Joe was extensive experience in broadcasting and works for a leading airline.
Secretary Elaine Mullan
Elaine Mullan
Elaine joined the station in 2007. She presents the request show on Fridays and a show on Sunday afternoon. When she’s not on-air or visiting the wards, Elaine works at a local firm of solicitors.
Treasurer & Membership Secretary Ken Bennett Ken Bennett Ken has been a keen radio listener since the launch of Radio Caroline in the 1960s, presents the radio station’s country music show, and looks after the station’s finances & membership.
Ward Liaison Manager Trevor Byford Trevor Byford Trevor presents the station’s Sound of the Pirates show. Trevor’s worked as a redcoat, is a keen musician, and is a certified pilot.
Fundraising Officer Alice Ryan
Alice Ryan
Alice presents shows on Southend Hospital Radio, and provides the ‘voiceovers’ for some of the station announcements. She is an actor and presents on a number of other radio stations.
Committee Member Richard James Richard James As well as helping on the committee, Richard presents a rock show on a Saturday and a chart show on a Sunday. He is active in the community of his home town, Leigh-on-Sea
Committee Member Charlie Palmer Charlie Palmer Charlie joined the station in 2000, presents a show on Friday evening, and is part of the Outside Events team active at local events.
Committee Member Brenda AustinBrenda Austin Brenda joined Southend Hospital Radio in 2009 and enjoys going round the wards, meeting the patients and collecting requests. She is part of the Wednesday Night team.

Terry Maton

Terry is a new recruit to the team, and as well as being on the committee, he is part of the Tuesday request team and helps our technical team to keep us on-air.
