Southend Hospital Radio is run totally by volunteers. The committee is elected at each year’s AGM and meets regularly to discuss station business and to help to shape the station’s future.

Chairman & Communications Officer Pete Sipple
Pete Sipple
Pete started with the radio station at the age of 16, kick-starting a 30-year career in broadcasting. Pete is involved with a number of Internet radio projects, has designed online and classroom-based radio training courses, and is a ‘radio ham’.
Vice-Chairman

Phil Dorking

Phil has been a member of hospital radio since 1982, though mostly non-active for the last 10 years due to work commitments.
During his time with hospital radio, he has mostly been involved on the technical side and as held a number of positions within the committee, including Chairman for 13 years.
Treasurer
Ken Bennett Ken joined in 2009 and is retired having spent his working years mainly in banking. Ken was previously part of the Friday Night team and presenter of It’s Country.
Secretary Elaine Mullan
Elaine Mullan
Elaine joined the station in 2007. She presents Southend Hospital Tonight on a Friday, plus a show on Sunday afternoon. When she’s not on-air or visiting the wards, Elaine works at a local firm of solicitors.
Programme Controller Joe Smith Joe Smith Joe has been a part of the radio station since 1997, and is responsible for the on-air sound of the radio station. Joe has extensive experience in broadcasting and works for a leading airline.
Ward Liaison Manager & Membership Secretary
Trevor Byford Trevor Byford Trevor presents the station’s Sound of the Pirates show. Trevor’s worked as a redcoat, is a keen musician, and is a certified pilot.
Fundraising Officer Charlie Palmer Charlie Palmer Charlie joined the station in 2000, presents a show on Friday evening, and has had a number of roles at the radio station over the years.
Committee Member Richard James Richard James As well as helping on the committee, Richard presents a rock show on a Saturday and a chart show on a Sunday. He is active in the community of his home town, Leigh-on-Sea
