I've been a member of the team at Southend Hospital Radio since 1985. I've been passionate about radio for as long as I can remember, playing with home-made radio receivers from a very young age, and tuning in to radio stations when I should have been asleep.
Keen to know more about radio, I joined Thameside Hospital Radio (as it was known in the 1980s) as a Technical Operator working in the Master Control Room. After a few years, I landed a job at the local commercial radio station, Essex Radio, and eventually become Station Engineer and Head of Production at a radio station in London, followed by several years as IT Manager for a group of commercial radio stations in the South East.
These days, I'm working on a number of Internet and podcasting projects, including contributing to the site Sarfend.co.uk, a local interest site covering the Southend-on-Sea area.
Radio is still in the blood, however, and I teach a weekend course in Radio Broadcasting at South Essex College, present a technology podcast, and write articles for a broadcasting -related website. I'm still an active member of the hospital radio team - I maintain the Southend Hospital Radio website, am responsible for IT at the studios, and serve on the committee.
When I'm not writing websites or in a studio, I may be working on the Sipple family tree, cycling, or out-and-about with my trusty digital camera.
