Southend Hospital Radio is always on the lookout for people to join our team and help out. As well as working in our studio complex, we're looking for people to visit patients in the wards, helping to collect patient's requests, and meeting our listeners.
Joan Gold, Membership Secretary:
Having been involved with Southend Hospital
Radio for about nine years, I have seen the radio
station go from strength to strength. This is due
to a very dedicated team of volunteers,
heightened profile within the hospital and also to
the untiring work by all who contribute time and
effort to the various things that have to be done
to keep our station running on an even keel.
We are always on the look-out for more people to join our team. As Membership Secretary, I would be the first point of contact. If you feel you would like to join us, or you can contact the studio direct on Wednesday or Thursday evenings between 8pm and 10pm on 01702 338181. The only proviso is that you are aged 16 years or over.
So, if you are retired for instance or just have an hour or so to spare, please contact me and I will arrange for you to visit us at the studio for an informal chat and to spend a while with us to see what we are all about!
Wearing my other hat as Ward Liaison Trainer, I would (should you decide to join us) introduce you to the members of our team, take you for a 'visit' to the wards that are being covered that particular evening in order to give you an idea of what our request collector's duties cover.
Our aim is not only to collect requests but also to familiarise the patients with the Premier bedside console and explain how it works, as it's very easy but can be confusing to start with.
So if you think you would like to join our happy band, please don't be shy, give us a call!
