Biography: Ken Merchant, Chairman

Ken was Chairman of Southend Hospital Radio until 2013.

 

Hello, I am Ken Merchant. I joined Southend Hospital Radio some 10 years ago after having spent over 40 years in International Shipping and Transport, ending up as Commercial Director of P & O / Nedlloyd based in Holland.

 

Although my responsibilities as Chairman are mainly involved with establishing standards of performance and financial management, I still enjoy the buzz of presenting programmes and meeting with our listeners. Listening is very important in understanding how we can improve our services in many different ways. The growth of Hospital Radio demonstrates the value that patients in hospital consider a local bespoke service gives to them, at what can be difficult periods in their lives.
